(a gentle reminder from someone still learning it too)
Let me be real with you - I’m someone who loves to do. Build a business? Let’s go. Be the family cheerleader, housekeeper, snack fetcher, errand runner, emotional support human? On it. There’s always been a piece of me that ties my value to what I contribute - what I can bring to the table, the relationship, the business.
But here’s what I’ve had to (and continue to) unlearn:
my worth is not measured by how productive I am
The Wake-Up Call 🌊
This past year wasn’t your typical kind of busy. It was survival mode. I stepped into a caretaker role, held the fort down while juggling life, kids, Wavy Boutique, and all the invisible threads that hold a family together.
Some days, the only thing I felt like I accomplished was keeping everyone alive and fed. And yet, I still found myself feeling guilty if I didn’t check ten things off a list or push something forward for the business. Like rest was a luxury instead of a necessity.
But can I tell you something I’m finally starting to believe?
rest is productive
Not because it leads to better work later. Not because it fuels creativity (even though it does). But because you deserve rest just for being human.
Worth Isn’t Earned 🐚
There’s this lie so many of us grew up believing- that we earn love, attention, or belonging by being helpful, busy, impressive. And especially as women, the pressure to carry it all with a smile is real.
But here’s the truth:
you are inherently worthy
Not because of your to-do list, your Pinterest-perfect home, or your thriving business. Just because you’re you.
Whether you’re in go-mode or slow-mode, showing up for everyone or quietly falling apart, your worth does not fluctuate.
Grace for the Season You’re In 🌺
As I step into another season with a deployment on the horizon, I’m reminding myself (daily, hourly, sometimes every other minute) that it’s okay to slow down and holding space for my own emotions is just as important as holding things down for everyone else.
Maybe you need that reminder too. Maybe you need to know it’s okay to:
-
Take a nap instead of finishing the laundry.
-
Say no to something without explaining.
-
Sit in stillness without solving a single thing.
-
Let someone else carry the bag for a minute.
You don’t have to constantly earn your keep. You are enough just as you are- messy bun, tired eyes, big heart and all.
Let’s Rewrite the Narrative 💌
If no one has told you lately:
You are not a machine.
You are not only here to give.
You’re allowed to receive.
You’re allowed to rest.
You’re allowed to just be.
So today, I’m choosing grace over grind.
And if you need it- borrow a little of mine until you find your own.
